2011 DECOMPRESSION WEEKEND – SOULFIRE!

Nov 4th-6th

We'll be shaking out the dust one last time this year at our local decom in the Los Gatos hills!  Get ready for three days and two nights of community, dance, art, performances, drummers, musicians, theme camps, random acts of radical self-expression, and more!

PARTICIPATE in the creation of a playa-style experience for everyone who attends. Bring your dusty tent, your leftover water and Tastee-Bites, your favorite costumes & art, your newly acquired bartender skills ... you know how it goes: we create the environment together! Our own back yard can feel just like Burning Man if we want it to!

To chat with your fellow burners about the event, see our Facebook event at

REGISTRATION:

All participants must pre-register and check in at the greeter station. Pre-registration fees are $60 for the entire 3-day, 2-night event. This fee includes admission and camping at Lupin, as well as a contribution to SoulFire to cover our costs for insurance, paypal, websites and such. Any additional proceeds will go towards future regional events such as art grants, film fests, and decoms.

ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS CLOSED --- PAY IN THE OFFICE WHEN YOU ARRIVE!

ACTIVITIES, THEME CAMPS AND ART:  We especially invite YOU to help bring the spirit of ART and PARTICIPATION to your regional event.  Or, schedule a workshop on any topic under the sun and it will be included in the What/Where/When!  If you are interested in participating in SoulFire with your theme camp, have an art piece you would like to display, or want to schedule a workshop, please send an email to southbay@burningman.com with the subject "Placement".

PARTICIPATE:  We welcome volunteers to ensure SoulFire is successful. If you have experience working Gate, Greeters, Rangers, First Aid etc., or would like to help out with parking, LNT, and other infrastructure needs, then plug in locally and bring your enthusiasm to this event!  If you would like to be a volunteer, please send an email to southbay@burningman.com with the subject, “Participate”.

MUSIC: We will have music by the pool by day, and inside the restaurant at night.  This is not a major music festival, but we welcome your participation to create an environment that is enjoyable for all!  If you would like to DJ, send an email to southbay@burningman.com with the subject “Music”.

LOCATION:  Lupin (www.lupinlodge.org) is a 110-acre private club and resort in the Los Gatos redwoods which was founded in 1936. It offers a swimming pool, 2 hot tubs, a sauna, showers and other recreational amenities including free Wi-Fi. As a family-friendly, clothing-optional retreat, social nudity is not required (although bathing suits are prohibited in the pool and hot tubs.)  So feel just as free to radically self-express yourself through costume (or lack thereof!) as you would on the playa.

IDENTIFICATION:  Lupin requires that each guest show an official photo ID such as a driver’s license, state-issued ID, or passport. IMPORTANT! Even if you have pre-registered with SoulFire you will not be allowed to enter Lupin without confirming your registration/ID in the Lupin office.

Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  (NOTE:  Serving alcohol to minors under the age of 21, or being under the influence if you are under 21, is against the law and may result in ejection from the event.)

MEALS:  A community kitchen is available with a stove, microwave, coffeemaker, sink etc. (please leave no trace!)  Because of high fire danger in the mountains, no open flames/BBQ grills may be used for cooking at tent sites. Cooking in enclosed RVs or vans, or on a Coleman-type propane camp stove, is permitted.

The Lupin Clubhouse Restaurant also serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as beer, wine, juices, espressos and a variety of snacks. Although you may prepare your own meals, the restaurant will be preparing buffet-style meals over the weekend as well (vegan options will be available at all the buffets).

FIRE:  No fire or fire performances of any kind will be permitted at SoulFire this year.  But do, please, bring your light poi, hula hoops, even a burn barrel with a floodlight inside … we can still play!

PHOTOGRAPHY:  Due to privacy concerns, only members of the Lupin Camera Club are permitted to take photographs during SoulFire.  If you would like to find out how to join the Lupin Camera Club, please call the office at 1-408-353-9200.
